The purely electronic solution made voting both easy to administer and to hold and, subsequently, the results of the election were available immediately. At the same time, the solution made access easier for the local authority's senior citizens who really took to the new form of voting as well.

In the wake of Telecom Scandinavia's takeover of KMD's electronic services, a plethora of new and exciting opportunities for Citizen Services has emerged. Consequently, in Ballerup it was decided that elections to the Ballerup Senior Citizens' Council would be completely electronic.

The election was held via the internet and Voice Response
The electronic solution gave voters the chance to either vote via the internet or via the telephone on an Interactive Voice Response (IVR). The telephone is a media that all voters have access to, so IVR was an obvious solution, both for the users - who were guided through the process by an automated voice, and for the local authority who could subsequently view the election results via both media on an associated website. Here, there was also an opportunity to see the number of votes cast by IVR and the internet respectively and from that, form an overview of the voters' use of the different media.
